EDITORS TIPS

The Extras: Watch the bartenders for a forgotten lesson in mixing. Contrary to Mr. Bond, the classic martini must be stirred, and not shaken. Shaking is only appropriate for cocktails that have heavy juices or cream in them.

Parking: If the pay lot behind the restaurant is full, note the free parking hiding in plain sight in the public structure around the corner north on Cherokee.

Where to Sit: Ask for a seat at the counter, it's one of the best places in town for those eating alone. Or copy Raymond Chandler, he's rumored to have penned the better part of "The Big Sleep" from one of the high-backed red booths.
